“Day” vs. “Night”

Here are pictures next to one another, to show how different the room looks with the lights on vs. the “portals” on:

Thank you so much for your interest, and in reading through this. Truly I enjoyed designing this Portal-masterpiece, and can’t wait for the next opportunity to try something else like this.

Until next time!

  1. Your Virginity is safe now 😀

Fucking great work, I would kill for that!

  2. I am a HUGE Portal fan, so I was thrilled to death to find this site!!! I’m amazed at how creative you were through the whole process, and how dedicated to making it look just right. It honestly looks perfect. I love the “Cake is a lie” closet! 😀 Fantastic job!

    “This was a triumph.” 🙂

  3. This is really awesome. Thanks for giving all the details of how you did it too. The end result looks a lot like the game, and the signs, dots, and mirrors are perfect.

  4. In that light can not pass through a small portal: D

  5. F I G A T A !

    awesomely cool! great work!

  6. Where is companion cube?!

  7. Awesome job!

One suggestion though: I would place the mirrors directly across from each other on opposite walls. That way, when you step up to either one of them, they will be reflecting each other’s reflections to infinity, and it’ll almost look like a functioning pair of portals!

    • Here’s an example of the effect I’m talking about:

It’s not exactly how portals behave, but the effect will be close!

  8. Reblogged this on Fan Actuel and commented:
Ce bloggeur a décoré sa chambre sur un mode “Portal” (le jeu vidéo).

  9. Very nice. I’d love to have a room like this. The only suggestion I might have is possibly using some kind of orange/blue illumination on the front of the frames for the infinity mirrors. Maybe an EL strip to give it a solid glow?

  10. “I’m making a note here, huge success”.

    Absolutely awesome.

  11. Truly awesome work. You should come out and help me do something with my Man Cave. lol Only thing that’s missing from the Portal room is a Companion Cube, but you can always add that later, right?

  12. This is completely awesome. The only tiny nitpick I have is that I would do the walls a different color/design. Even though your way is more faithful to the game the cold, dingy feeling might not be good for a bedroom setting. A light sky blue would really make the orange details look nice for instance. 🙂

  13. This is amazing! I would love to have a room like that. =D I think it looks really atmospheric at night.

  14. This is friggen awsome!!!

  15. Wow, this is an incredible achievement! Congratulations to a job well done. Time to ask Valve to send you a few weighted companion cube so you can build a sitting area out of them! (Also they should really just hire you to decorate their office! I bet they have an accounting department there too!)

  16. Excellent relaxation vault. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as long as Wheatley refrains from using a manual override on the door.

  17. Excellent work. Possibly needs a cube dispenser in the ceiling

  18. Amazing stuff right here!

  19. Wonder how difficult it would be to configure a remote switch for the LEDs, and integrate that switch into the portal guns. Now THAT would be awesome!

    • We actually spent some time contemplating doing this… we even considered adding a sort of time-delay dimmer so when you turned on the mirrors they would slowly light up so it would look like the portals were going into the wall. Unfortunately, the additional amount of time it would take to configure this, as well as the amount of alteration the Portal gun it would require, combined with how much I’d really use that feature (the conclusion: not enough to make it worth the extra labor/materials), we decided against it, but it was still a really cool idea that would have been fun to try!

  20. What the hell! 😀 Thats awesome!

  21. I love it! I’ve never played Portal, just seen stuff on thinkgeek, but I love it anyway. It’s awesome. My nephew is going to LOVE this when I send him the link, he plays portal.

  22. For a companion cube, I suggest just buying a basic squared ottoman and reupholstering it with the proper fabric, etc. I have a storage ottoman I bought from Target that’s probably a good size for a cube.

  23. Unbelievable work. Love the way you have used infinity mirrors as portals, I want some of them with the signs for my computer room. Your hard work has paid off and very inspiring and I just love it, now why can’t my girlfriend be just like you lol

    • Have wrote about your article in the letters section in OPM so hopefully it may feature sometime soon. Time for a game of Portal 2 me thinks 🙂

      • Just in case you didn’t already know that my letter made the Official Playstation magazine reference your portal bedroom issue 89 page 28 ‘Hidden a gender’ by David Parker.
